I have dedicated my career to understanding and treating emotional health. I have always been impressed with my clients’ abilities to address and overcome life’s challenges, often using skills they didn’t even know they had. It is so gratifying to see people become the best versions of themselves.
My experiences prior to creating my private practice include working with children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient settings.
A specific area of interest is helping those to improve their interpersonal relationships, whether they be with family, coworkers, or others. I want our sessions to be a supportive and safe place where you can be your genuine self without fear of judgement as you process, learn, and work through life’s challenges.
I enjoy working with those 18 and over to provide evidenced-based individual therapy services grounded in cognitive behavioral, person-centered, and narrative therapy approaches, as well as motivational interviewing.
Achieve your goals
I use a variety of counseling techniques to help you overcome the obstacles in your life. Through improved self-awareness, and identification of your strengths and abilities, you will learn the necessary skills to effectively manage your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I will meet you where you are and customize our work together based on your needs.
Socially distanced counseling
Until the COVID-19 pandemic is over, I am seeing all of my clients virtually using an encrypted platform. It will feel like a Zoom call to you, but behind the scenes, there is a secure system which protects your confidentiality. There is no need to travel to an office. You may sign in to your sessions anywhere you have a good internet connection.
The Counseling Process
The Beginning
Regardless of whether your concerns relate to relationships, college stressors, parenting, depression, anxiety, ADHD, or issues related to COVID-19, the therapeutic relationship generally begins the same way.
We’ll begin by talking about your concerns, what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past, and what you hope to get out of counseling. Next, we’ll explore your personal and family history. Generally, by the end of our third session, we will have created a list of your goals and developed a plan to achieve them.
The Middle
As we work on our plan, we’ll pause every few sessions to check in with each other to ensure that we’re still on track and to make any appropriate changes in the plan we created.
Some clients are looking for short term counseling that works on a specific set of issues. Others are looking for a longer, in-depth exploration of where they have been and where they are going. Either way, my goal is to help you direct the focus and length of counseling.
The End
The end of the counseling process comes when you feel good about the progress you have made towards reaching your goals.
It is always rewarding to celebrate that milestone together. All my former clients are welcome to reach out to me in the future - either for a quick refresher about the skills we talked about, or to work on new goals that may have developed.
